A Tool for the Journey

First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your encouraging words about my down day!  I still am apprehensive about all the money that we need to spend on dental - and how everything will work out, but I am treading ahead, trusting in God and trying to be a good steward of all I've been given.  I'm sorry that I was so discouraged here, but I do feel that it's very important for people to be "real" - life is not just about the happy and rosey times!  Thankfully my life has more roses than thorns - and as far as dental bills go, it's only money!  Over the years, DH and I have had many unexpected bills (I'm sure you have too) and although they've added stress, we've also taken the position that at least we can "throw money" at them.  Sickness and things like that cannot be fixed with money! :) ~~~

I'm not sure if I've posted about PGX yet - but I've been using this for about a year already and I highly recommend it.  (I don't recommend anything until I've tried it myself and am convinced that it's worth it.  I hate jumping on the "new product" bandwagon - touting the latest this or that and then falling off when it's obvious that the product isn't all it's cracked up to be.)  But last year this product was featured at the Weight Management seminar that I went to, sponsored by the Weight Management Centre where I am a patient.  I was skeptical - since this is a fibre supplement and I already take 2 T. of ground psyllium daily and have been for years.  And psyllium is MUCH cheaper than PGX...

From reading about PGX I have learned some new things.  PGX is a fibre supplement, but it also has many other benefits (unlike psyllium, for instance - I still take psyllium though).  PGX is natural and safe (that's important to me). PGX helps to balance sugar, it lowers cholesterol...from their website:
PGX® is available as a softgel capsule or in granular form. It is taken just before meals with a large glass of water or can be sprinkled over food. With a meal, PGX® absorbs the water and mixes with the food to become a gel-like matrix that gently expands and builds a viscosity that slows digestion and provides a pleasant feeling of fullness. The volume and the viscosity properties of PGX® are unique to PGX® and are the result of its proprietary composition, including a high fibre content that was developed over years of scientific research. In fact, the volume and viscosity of the gel matrix is almost entirely responsible for the powerful benefits that PGX® is able to exert on your behalf.
PGX® is simple to use and can be incorporated into your daily meals and lifestyle with ease. Continue reading to learn how PGX® can correct your appetite to help you lose weight, balance your blood sugar, and even lower your cholesterol – all this, while also being incredibly safe.

PGX® Helps You Lose Weight
For almost everyone, the math behind weight loss is simple: your body has to burn more calories than it consumes. There are 3,500 calories in one pound of fat. If you burn 500 more calories than you consume each day, theoretically you will lose one pound a week. It is for this reason that all sensible diets focus on a combination of exercise and calorie reduction. PGX® does not burn calories, but it can make eating fewer calories each day much easier for you, correcting your appetite and helping you decrease the size of your meals.
Now, as you know, I haven't lost a huge amount of weight over the past year - BUT, PGX has helped me to lose what I have lost, and to NOT GAIN!  That's important too!  PGX fills me up and then I hardly am thinking of a hankering for "this or that" to eat!

One note:  If you decide to try PGX, start slow.  I started with 1 pouch (I buy a box of individual portions - didn't care for the capsules - see photo above) per day and now I have 2 per day (afternoon & evening).  I don't take mine near to taking medication because it can slow down your medication absorption.  Drink LOTS of water IMMEDIATELY after taking PGX.  I add my PGX to my yogurt or soup - it nicely thickens soup and is tasteless.

HAVE YOU TRIED PGX?

I take PGX "on occasion". I need to be more consistent with it. I do find it to suppress my appetite though especially when it comes to craving something sweet. I don't know whether that is a placebo-type effect or not. If I was more consistent, I'd know for sure. Actually, you were the one that told me about it.

Hi Denny, I think it works by expanding a lot in your body (thus the need for water) - it makes you feel full. I am impressed about how it keeps blood sugars consistent, something I've read is very important for avoiding Alzheimer's disease (among other ailments, including diabetes). Lots of info on their website.
Good to "see" you!

PS I didn't get your email yet... ;)

I've never tried PGX, I'm convinced though that the best recipe for weight loss is more movement and fewer calories... however, there are certain supplements that make it EASIER to keep within a decent calorie range, perhaps that's how PGX works?
